Surnames of Grates Cove

The surnames that you find listed in Grates Cove today are different from those of the first settlers. However, there are a few that have remained. For example, Janes and Cooper were the first settlers here, but today there are no permanent residents with that name. One of the Janes family, Frank Janes, does have a summer home in the community. Of the families that came from Lower Island Cove, there are still Snelgrove families in Grates Cove.
